The key to the Two Rivers Platinum success story is its strong focus on people.
We believe no one knows our operation better than our employees and we look to leverage our skill base wherever possible. Through the mine’s talent management initiatives, we ensure that we have the right person in the right job at the right time. At the same time, our policy is to have an equitable and diversified workforce which reflects the demographics of our country.
We are committed to developing our employees to the maximum of their potential for the benefit of the employee, the company and the community. We offer training and skill development at all levels. Our training includes both technical and specialist training as well as soft skills programmes. We continuously improve the service we deliver at our MQA-accredited Training Centre by enhancing the technology we use. These programmes are designed to help build a more skilled and competent workforce to embrace technological advancements.
To increase learner interest collaborative teaching techniques are used. Both theoretical and practical training interventions are used in certain crucial training interventions, such as TMM Simulator Training/Using Virtual Reality Platforms.
Our Study Assistance Programme offers bursaries to employees as well as children from the local communities who meet the criteria guidelines of the programme.
Community Portable Skills Training
Through the Community Portable Skills Training Programme, we empower people with transferable skills that can open doors to various industries and occupations. With our vocational training programs in fields like Engineering, plumbing, electrical work, welding, computer literacy, and mechanics, we hope to inspire individuals to pursue their passions and achieve their dreams.
Mineral Processing Skills Programmes
TRP offers Mineral Processing Skills Programs and Learnership Qualification (NQF Level 2) that typically focus on providing individuals with the necessary knowledge and practical skills related to mineral extracting, including exploration, mining, and processing. These programs typically cover a range of skills and qualifications necessary for safely and efficiently extracting minerals in a programme type or qualification (Learnership NQF Level 2).
Learner Miner Programme
TRP offers learner miners programs designed to train individuals with little or no previous experience in mining to become competent miners. These programs often aim to provide a combination of theoretical knowledge and practical skills needed for various roles within the mining sector. Learner miner programs can vary in duration (between 12 and 18 Months), but they are generally structured to ensure that participants gain a comprehensive understanding of the mining processes and acquire the skills required for entry-level Team Leader and Miner positions. On completion of Level 3 qualifications. Learners are prepared for the DMRE board test for competency. Learners will write tests on Fridays on the different syllabi and once the learner achieves 100% on all tests, an on-site mini board is arranged and if the Manager is satisfied that the learner is ready, HRD apply for examination by the DMRE.
Cadet Programme
TRP offers CADET programs to the surrounding community and bursars on both Mining extraction and Mineral processing. Cadet programs often include formal training sessions, workshops, and educational opportunities to supplement on-the-job learning. This could cover a range of topics relevant to mining and mineral processing. The programs focus on developing not only technical skills but also leadership, communication, and project management skills. Cadets may be involved in real projects, giving them hands-on experience
People Intelligence – Psychometric Assessments as part of the business Strategy.
Two Rivers Mine has a People Intelligence program, which includes the use of psychometric assessments. This is integrated into the mine’s business strategy to enhance the understanding of employees' capabilities, work styles, and growth potential. It aims to align human resources with business goals and create a workforce that is well-suited for organizational success. Psychometric assessments are commonly used in the hiring process to evaluate candidates' cognitive abilities, personality traits, and behavioural tendencies. This helps identify individuals who not only have the necessary skills but also align with the company's values and culture.

Educational areas include communication in English and Mathematical literacy. TRP also offer pre-AET in levels 1 to 3. The final examination is conducted by an external provider, SACAI for level 1 to level 3 and pre-AET internal courses.
In 2023 we embarked on a computerised system that gives the learners an additional skill whilst obtaining an AET qualification.
